Standardization of Qualitative Data in Manufacturing — Škoda Auto
Škoda Auto a.s. is one of the leading automotive manufacturers in Central Europe, producing over 1,000,000 vehicles annually. As a key member of the Volkswagen Group, the company places extreme demands on data accuracy, availability, and real-time usability across its highly automated production environments.
Since 2021, mySCADA has been delivering a large-scale standardization system for qualitative manufacturing data across Škoda’s production plants.
Project Scale
- 18 production lines, each consisting of 5–20 production stations
- 190+ stations connected in total
- 80,000 messages processed daily (~7 GB of data per day)
- Deployed across three plants: Mladá Boleslav, Kvasiny, Vrchlabí
Project Assignment
The objective was to ensure collection of qualitative data from heterogeneous sources, transform and unify it into a standardized format, and distribute it to higher-level systems.
This data is essential for production quality management, process engineers and technologists, and monitoring of NOK parts, efficiency, and production cycle times — enabling corrective actions and optimization of production parameters.
Areas of Deployment
mySCADA collects data across a wide range of production processes:
- Tightening (Assembly Operations) — tightening torque, angle, speed, and process curves, used to evaluate joint correctness in real time
- Battery Testing — monitoring of charging and discharging curves to evaluate the quality of individual battery components
- Pressing — monitoring of pressing operations as a basis for corrective actions
The ecosystem also includes a fastening laboratory for sampling inspections, validation tests, and verification of measured data accuracy.
Data Sources and Integration
The production environment integrates equipment from various manufacturers (Bosch Rexroth, Atlas Copco), including handheld tools, semi-automated and fully automated machines. Machine data arrives in various formats (JSON, XML) via:
- HTTP / HTTPS (push model)
- REST API (pull model)
- MQTT
- IBM MQ
- File transfers (FTP)
Data Standardization
mySCADA unifies data from heterogeneous sources, transforms it into a standardized JSON format, and distributes it via IBM MQ to connected systems — including ERP (SAP), MS Power BI, and data analytics platforms.
Solution Benefits
- Unified view of qualitative data across production
- Rapid identification of issues and their root causes
- Increased production efficiency
- Data-driven decision-making support
- Readiness for advanced analytics and Industry 4.0
