Autonomous Vehicles (AGV) in Škoda Auto

mySCADA Technologies has implemented an autonomous vehicle management system for Škoda Auto’s internal logistics operations — automating forklift traffic while providing complete visibility into AGV fleets across the production floor.

Project Overview

The initiative aimed to eliminate manual forklift operations and replace them with a data-driven, monitored AGV fleet. The key challenge: capturing real-time telemetry from every vehicle, integrating it with Škoda’s existing IT infrastructure, and ensuring the system would run reliably around the clock.

Technical Architecture

mySCADA and DataTalk serve as the central data layer, collecting telemetry from Rockwell Automation Safety Logix PLCs. Data is transmitted securely via MQTT to two destinations simultaneously:

  • Traffic Control System (TCS) — fleet routing and dispatching
  • mySCADA — advanced monitoring, alarm management and historical analysis

Key Features Deployed

  • Real-time AGV position visualization on vector maps — displaying vehicle state, speed, and battery level at a glance
  • Redundant server configuration for continuous 24/7 availability
  • Historical data storage for retrospective fleet performance analysis
  • Alarm and event management with automatic detection of abnormal states
  • Web-based access for both floor operators and network operations personnel

Result

Logistics data that was previously invisible is now fully captured, monitored, and traceable. Operators can track every vehicle, every movement, and every alarm from a single browser interface — on the factory floor or remotely.
