MND Group is the largest company in Czech Republic specialized in exploring, searching, and extracting crude oil and natural gas, and the owner of the Uhrice underground gas storage facility. MND's engineers suspected pressure losses in a remote gas drying unit — and used mySCADA Box 3G to identify the root cause through 1-second precision data logging, without stopping operations.

Challenge

MND detected a problem in a distant underground gas storage facility, specifically in the gas drying unit, suspecting pressure losses in the refrigeration system. As technician Mr. Frolka explained: "We looked for a logging device that could be easily and quickly installed into the current control system. We knew there was a problem, but we could not diagnose it without constant contact with the system." The diagnosis had to be done without shutting down the operational system.

Solution

MND equipped their existing control system with mySCADA Box 3G. An Ethernet/IP connection between the ControLogix PLC and mySCADA Box was established without shutting the system down. The system logged data from 7 gas pressure converters and 2 temperature sensors at 1-second precision with hysteresis detection. mySCADA Box's internal memory stored over 28,000,000 analog values — providing more than 5 years of continuous system monitoring history. The GSM 3G module enabled secure remote connection from a PC without additional infrastructure. Using the freely available myREPORTS software, data was displayed graphically and transferred into reports for advanced diagnostics.
