Husovický Tunnel

myBOX IPCmyDESIGNER

The Husovický Tunnel in Brno was built in 1999 to ease traffic congestion between the east and north districts of the city. Approximately 600 metres (0.4 miles) long, thousands of cars pass through every day. In 2012, the obsolete automation system was replaced with a new mySCADA-based solution — delivering a fraction of the cost of competing systems.

The previous obsolete automation system monitoring traffic signs, lights, and ventilation needed replacement with modern technology. The new system had to manage traffic signs, lighting, ventilation, and safety systems across the entire 600-metre tunnel with 24/7 remote access, configurable alarm management with SMS/email notifications, 1-second data logging precision, and shared monitoring access for police and fire brigades — all while maintaining the high safety standards required for a busy urban tunnel.

The new control system is based on a progressive modular ControLogix PLC system combined with mySCADA Box. All visualizations were created in mySCADA Editor and deployed to PCs in the control rooms as well as to iPads used as local operators' touch panels. Operators can retrieve online system data both in the control room and in the field. Authorized operators can configure alarm activation values, descriptions, severity levels, action modes, and notification delivery (SMS/email). All historical data is logged with 1-second precision in mySCADA Box and available on demand — giving operators full control over all events and alarms. Remote access enables 24/7 system access from anywhere while maintaining system safety. The system is shared with police and fire brigades who monitor the tunnel directly from their own control rooms.

  • "The advanced visualization of the tunnel technology gives a perfect and user-friendly overview of the entire system"
  • Operators can rapidly detect any system failure and change parameters immediately
  • iPads fully replaced obsolete HMI panels in the control room — enabling mobile field operation
  • Police and fire brigades have direct online tunnel monitoring access from their own control rooms
  • Significant acquisition price savings — mySCADA system price is a fraction of competing systems
  • All historical data logged with 1-second precision for complete event and alarm analysis
  • Enhanced traffic safety and continuous system oversight across the full 600-metre tunnel
